SUMMARY:Schëppe Siwen at Rockhal
DESCRIPTION:Schëppe Siwen\, Luxembourgish for “Seven of Spades”\, began in 2009 as a trio playing every St Patrick’s Day at their regular pub\, the Vis A Vis. It grew into a big folk-punk collective of fiddle\, flute\, accordion and trumpets\, made for dancing. Schëppe Siwen take over the Rockhal Club on Saturday 6 March 2027 for the Bohemian Folk Circus album release. Doors at 20:00\, on stage at 20:30. They are one of the biggest live acts this country has\, which is a sentence worth pausing on: a Luxembourg band that has taken its folk-punk across Europe\, sold out the rooms at home\, and once put the whole thing in front of a symphonic orchestra. The release show is built around circus staging and the look of an old travelling fair. Standing\, in the Club\, presented by Rocklab. If you only go to one local gig this year\, the case for this one is strong. Who are Schëppe Siwen? Schëppe Siwen\, Luxembourgish for “Seven of Spades”\, are a folk-punk band from Luxembourg\, formed in December 2009. They began as a trio at their regular pub\, the Vis A Vis\, where they played every St Patrick’s Day\, and grew into a big collective of fiddle\, flute\, accordion\, trumpets\, guitar\, bass and drums. Lead singer and violinist Jean-Marc “Jojo” Wagner fronts the band. The sound is fast folk mixed with punk\, ska\, reggae and polka\, made for dancing. The lyrics are mostly in Luxembourgish\, often built on double rhymes with layered meanings. Their concerts draw every generation\, families included\, and they have toured Europe and sold out major venues at home. Their records A first studio album in 2012. Sprëtztour (“Joyride”): recorded in 2015 at Linster Studios and launched at Melusina in January 2016. Wat Bleift: nearly three years in the making\, partly inspired by Jojo’s year-long trip around the world\, launched in November 2019 at the band’s own first Folkpunkfestival. Richtung Fräiheet (“Towards Freedom”): their fourth album\, launched with a sold-out night at den Atelier on 9 November 2024. Its song “D’Welt Brennt” was made with Greenpeace Luxembourg. Bohemian Folk Circus: the new album celebrated at this show. Songs to know before the night: “Danzen”\, “Jonk a Fräi”\, “Fraleit”\, “De Klenge Männchen”\, “D’Welt Brennt”\, “Hieft Är Glieser”. The Bohemian Folk Circus show This is the release show for Bohemian Folk Circus\, part of Rocklab’s Release Package\, which helps Luxembourg acts launch new music at Rockhal. The band calls the album a world of its own: the night brings live music together with circus arts\, acrobatics and the nostalgia of old travelling fairs\, and the audience becomes part of the performance. The songs deal with pressure\, fake worlds\, war and identity\, and ask what freedom really means. Rockhal warns that the music “doesn’t let you off easy”\, yet it still makes people dance. It follows a busy 2025\, when the Richtung Fräiheet tour took them to 18 shows in six countries\, including a night with an orchestra on the Kinnekswiss in Luxembourg City.
