Belval Outdoor is a free open space for sport and sitting about, on the Terrasse des Hauts Fourneaux between the socle of Haut Fourneau C, one of the winter gardens and the Maison du Savoir. There is no booking and no fee. The sign on site puts it plainly: the space is shared freely and used under the responsibility of the people using it.
It holds a half basketball court, a pétanque court, a table-tennis table, and a lawn with tables and chairs scattered under young trees. A barbecue is built into the concrete beside the seating, and to use it you call the number given on the sign, 691 292 175. The hours posted on site are 07:00 to 23:00, every day.
The Fonds Belval built it as the first step of a wider greening of the Terrasse, lifting the brick paving that covered this corner and laying grass in its place. The hoops stand a few metres from the blast furnace works.
