Chno Matcha has opened on rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Chno Matcha is named after the four elements caffeine is built from: carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen. The logo on the glass draws the molecule above a cup.

It opened on Friday 23 October at 4, rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau, on the corner with boulevard de la Recherche. The unit had sat behind frosted glass for weeks with a counter slowly taking shape inside it.

The sheet in the window gives the hours: Monday to Friday 07:45 to 16:30, Saturday 10:00 to 16:00, closed on Sunday. The early weekday start is the useful part if you pass this corner on the way to the campus.

Three boards sit on the counter. Matcha runs from a hot latte at €6.00 through iced versions with strawberry, mango, blueberry or lychee, matcha shaken with coconut water, a trio, and one served over gelato at €7.50. Coffee starts at €3.50 for an espresso or an americano, with a dirty and a coconut dirty at €6.00. The tea series covers brown sugar milk tea, matcha milk tea, Hong Kong iced lemon tea and fruit teas, €6.00 to €6.50.

Dogs are allowed inside. The nearest stop is Belval, Um Bedding, and the same address already holds a driving school and a medical laboratory, so the corner is busier than it looks. I called in on the morning it opened, and the hours and prices here are what I saw.
