Belval is easy to reach and, from anywhere in Luxembourg, free to reach. The station, Belval-Université, sits in the middle of the district, most buses stop within a few minutes of it, and every place on this site tells you how far its door is from the station, the nearest bus stop and the nearest car park.

One thing to know first. Public transport inside Luxembourg is free in second class, trains and buses alike. You only ever pay for the part of a journey that is outside the country.
From Luxembourg City
Train. Line 60 runs from Luxembourg’s central station to Belval-Université without a change, in about half an hour. Take any train towards Pétange or Rodange. Esch-sur-Alzette is the stop before Belval.
Bus. Line 605 runs from Luxembourg (Monterey) to Belval Université, on its way to Villerupt.
Car. The A4 motorway runs from Luxembourg City straight to Belval. See parking, below, before you set off.
From Luxembourg Airport
Take bus 16 or 29 to Luxembourg’s central station. They leave every 10 to 15 minutes. From there, line 60 to Belval-Université as above.
From Esch-sur-Alzette centre
Train. One stop, Esch to Belval-Université.
Bus. Lines 4, 7 and 15 (TICE) and 551 and 642 (RGTR) all link Esch and Belval.
On foot or by bike. The Vëlodukt, a 1.2 km bridge for walkers and cyclists, runs from Esch to Belval above the old industrial land, with stairs and a lift down to avenue du Rock’n’Roll. Vël’Ok, the free e-bike network run by CIGL Esch, has stations in Esch and around Belval.
From Differdange, Pétange and Rodange
Line 60 again, in the other direction: trains towards Esch and Luxembourg stop at Belval-Université.
From Thionville and Metz
Train. Take the TER towards Luxembourg and change at Bettembourg for line 60 to Belval-Université.
The ticket. You only need one for the French part. When you buy it, choose Bettembourg Frontière as your destination rather than Luxembourg. From the border onwards, the journey is free.
Bus from Thionville. Line 551 runs from Thionville to Belval and Belval Université, from early morning until late evening. It needs a RegioZone ticket for the French part: €3 for two hours or €5 for the day, valid until 04:00 the next morning. Buy it before you board, in the CFL go app or at a ticket machine. Tickets are no longer sold on the bus.
Car. From the French side, the B40 link road runs from Micheville straight into Belval and on to the A4. Read the parking section before you set off.
From Villerupt and Audun-le-Tiche
Bus 605 runs from Villerupt through Audun-le-Tiche and Esch to Belval, and on to Luxembourg. The same RegioZone ticket covers the French part.
From Longwy
Take the train to Rodange, then line 60 to Belval-Université. Buy your ticket to Rodange Frontière, not further.
From Arlon and Belgium
Take the train to Luxembourg’s central station, then line 60. Buy an SNCB ticket for the whole journey to Belval-Université: the Luxembourg part is deducted automatically.
Arriving by car
This is the section worth reading twice, because the two big car parks work very differently.
P+R Belval-Université, the covered CFL car park by the station. It is paid parking, but it becomes free for 24 hours if you carry on by train, bus, bike or on foot. You do that through the P+R CFL app, with location switched on, as you leave the car park area. If you drive to Belval to take the train onwards, this is where to park. On concert evenings there is a flat rate of €4 from 18:00 to 01:00. Until the end of the year, building works have reduced the number of spaces.
Belval Plaza car park, 7 avenue du Rock’n’Roll, run by Indigo and open around the clock. Paid, and the one for shopping, the cinema and the restaurants around the Plaza. Check the rates at the entrance.
On the street, parking in Belval is short-stay and time-limited. Fine for a quick errand, not for a day.
Before you travel
Line 60 is under works this autumn. Until 15 October there are no trains between Esch and Rodange after 20:00, and bus L60 replaces them. On 3 and 4 October there are no trains at Belval at all. Every date and the replacement buses.
