Belval’s research buildings are easy to see. The funding system behind much of their work is less visible. The Luxembourg National Research Fund, known as FNR, is Luxembourg’s main public research funder.
From its office in Maison du Savoir, FNR runs competitive programmes covering fundamental and applied research, doctoral training and researcher careers, international cooperation, knowledge transfer and collaboration with companies. Applications follow the rules of each funding scheme and are assessed through independent scientific review.
FNR also connects research with the wider public through science communication, training, events and platforms such as science.lu. Established in 1999, the organisation moved from Kirchberg to Maison du Savoir in late September 2015.
The eighth-floor office is a working headquarters, not a public laboratory, general study space or walk-in funding desk. For a funding question, use the relevant programme contact or the online grant system and arrange any in-person visit in advance. Enter Maison du Savoir through the Administration entrance, pass reception and take the lift to the eighth floor.
