The Art of Incense: fragrance as meditation at the Université Populaire

The Art of Incense is a course in English on Xiangdao, the Eastern art of incense, run by the Université Populaire in Belval: ten Thursdays from 17:10 to 18:50, starting on 12 November. No experience is needed.

Xiangdao sits alongside the tea ceremony and flower arranging as one of the classical Eastern arts. The course covers its history, materials and rituals: learning to recognise aromatic woods by scent alone, preparing and blending your own incense, and finally hosting a formal incense gathering.

Sessions are on 12, 19 and 26 November, 3, 10 and 17 December, then 7, 14, 21 and 28 January, with a break for the Christmas holidays. The ten sessions cost €90. Register on the Université Populaire’s website before the first one.

Classes take place in the ENAD building (Bâtiment F) at 1 Avenue de la Fonte, on the Belval campus, a few minutes on foot from Belval-Université station. Know someone who would enjoy a slower Thursday evening?
