Schmelz could hardly have chosen a name or setting more rooted in the neighbourhood. “Schmelz” is Luxembourgish for the steelworks, and the restaurant sits on Ënnert den Héichiewen, literally beneath the blast furnaces.
Inside, the industrial structure remains part of the room while the menu combines brasserie cooking with Luxembourgish dishes such as Feierstengszalot and gebootschte Gromperen. Traditional plates may rotate, but the local direction remains clear. This is one of those rare meals where the language, food, street and skyline all tell the same story. Belval is not a theme added afterwards. It is already at the table.
