“Schmelz” is Luxembourgish for the steelworks, and the restaurant sits on Ënnert den Héichiewen, literally beneath the blast furnaces.
Inside, the industrial structure is still part of the room. The menu mixes brasserie cooking with Luxembourgish dishes such as Feierstengszalot and gebootschte Gromperen, and the traditional plates may rotate.
The bar and the kitchen keep different hours. The bar opens at 11:30 and runs late, until one in the morning at the end of the week, but the kitchen serves from 12:00 to 22:00. Happy hour is 17:00 to 19:00, every day it opens.
Sunday is their closed day, with one exception this autumn. Schmelz opens on Sunday 4 October from 11:30 to 17:00 for Fête des Pères, which falls on the first Sunday in October in Luxembourg. There are no trains at Belval that weekend, so it is the L60 bus from Esch instead: railway works, autumn 2026.
