INLL Belval – Institut national des langues

The national language institute’s southern site, on the lifelong-learning campus at Porte de France. Adult courses in six languages, and one of only two places in the country…

The Institut national des langues is the state’s language school for adults, run by the Ministry of Education, and INLL Belval is one of its three sites. It sits in the Terres Rouges building at 14 Porte de France, on the Université populaire campus that opened in April 2021, sharing more than 3,000 square metres with the adult education service and the vocational training centre. Thirty-two classrooms, a media library and a 300-seat auditorium.

Nationally the INLL teaches thirteen languages. At Belval the timetable covers English, French, German, Luxembourgish, Portuguese and Spanish, and it is built around people with jobs: classes start as early as 07:10 and evening classes run until seven. Fees are set by regulation rather than the market, and drop to €10 a course for jobseekers registered with ADEM, people on the guaranteed minimum income and holders of a reception and integration contract taking one of the three administrative languages.

INLL Belval is also one of only two places in Luxembourg where you can sit the Sproochentest, the Luxembourgish language test required of anyone applying for nationality. It costs €75, it is valid for life, and the other place is the Glacis site in the capital. For a neighbourhood with the international population this one has, that is not a small thing to have a five-minute walk from the station.

Places are not evenly hard to get. The autumn 2026 semester opened with around 10,000 places across all languages and levels, and the beginner courses in Luxembourgish and French went in minutes on registration morning, not days. The rest of the timetable is a different story and stays open much longer. Enrolment for this autumn runs until 2 October 2026; the semester itself runs to 28 January 2027.

Good to know

Best for
Luxembourgish and French for adults, the Sproochentest, early classes before work, evening classes after it
Local tip: Beginner Luxembourgish and French places go within minutes of registration opening, so get the online pre-test and orientation interview out of the way months in advance: they run all year round, and you cannot enrol without them.

Thank you. That is exactly how this stays right: I will check it and update the page.
