Belval’s Peace Pole is easy to pass and worth stopping for. Its four faces repeat the same wish, “May Peace Prevail on Earth”, across Luxembourgish, German, French and English. The University unveiled it at Place de l’Université in May 2021. It came from the international organisation behind the Peace Pole movement, recognising peace-education work connected with the Transatlantic Dialogue.

Its scale is modest beside Maison du Savoir, but that is part of its strength. The message meets people on an ordinary route to class, work or the station. Walk around, read every side and let the languages share the space. In an international university community, the monument needs no grand speech.
