The university, streets and public spaces of Belval were built around its blast furnaces, so the old plant is impossible to ignore. One furnace forms part of a visitor route that begins in the Möllerei and follows the journey once taken by ore and coke.
Interpretation explains the process as the stairs rise, and the high platform finally places the whole transformation in one view: ironwork close enough to touch, new campus beyond it. Access depends on season and weather, and a route with a lift avoids the stairs and climbs to 40 metres. On a windy day, check before you go.
The visit runs 10:00 to 19:00 from 1 April to 31 October, then 10:00 to 16:00 from 1 November to 31 March. It is closed on Tuesdays and from 24 December to 1 January, and open on public holidays. Last entry is half an hour before closing. The tour starts from the Möllerei entrance, where those hours are posted on the door.
Entry is €5, or €3 for over-65s and people with reduced mobility. It is free for anyone under 21, students under 26 with a student card, LuxembourgCard holders and school groups. Families can follow a treasure hunt, decoding hidden signs from a map, at €5 per person from age 5, with under-12s accompanied by an adult.
