Source code is usually something only programmers read. The Source Code exhibition asks visitors to look at it differently: as a mirror of society, a practice with a history and a context, a tool for empowerment and political action, and a cultural artefact in its own right.
Software Heritage and Inria created it for Software Heritage’s tenth anniversary. It opened at UNESCO in Paris in January and has since toured venues across France, including the Cité des sciences et de l’industrie and Télécom Paris. From 13 to 29 October it comes to Belval, where one of its curators works, on the ground floor of the Maison du Savoir.
The opening is on Tuesday 13 October from 16:00 to 18:30. It starts with a round table in auditorium 3330, moderated by Valérie Schafer of the university’s Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History, with the curators Mathilde Fichen, Titaÿna Kauffmann Will, Stefano Penge and Camille Picard and the contributors Stéphane Bortzmeyer and Kate Mancey. Afterwards everyone moves to the exhibition for drinks and snacks.
Entry is free. Registration for the opening is welcome but not required, through the university’s form. The university has not published daily visiting hours for the rest of the run; its listing gives 17:00 on Thursday 29 October as the close.
The Maison du Savoir is the university tower on Place de l’Université, about nine minutes on foot from Belval-Université station.
