The University of Luxembourg did more than move teaching to Belval in 2015. It changed the daily life of the district. Students and researchers now cross a campus built around preserved furnaces, where the Maison du Savoir faces industrial giants and the Luxembourg Learning Centre occupies part of a former ore store. The result is not a sealed academic enclave.
Public lectures, exhibitions, festivals and open days regularly invite the wider community in, while cafés and terraces blur the edge between campus and neighbourhood. Walk through without rushing. Belval’s old machinery and new architecture keep interrupting one another, and that conversation is the point: a place once organised around steel now organised around people learning what comes next.
