Restena Foundation

Luxembourg’s national research and education network operator, based in Maison du Savoir and responsible for connectivity, cybersecurity services and the .lu domain infrastructure.

Most people encounter Restena through its systems rather than across a reception desk. From its offices in Maison du Savoir, the foundation operates Luxembourg’s National Research and Education Network, connecting organisations across education, research, culture, health and public administration.

Restena also manages the national infrastructure behind .lu domain names and most of the technical operations of the LU-CIX internet exchange. Its wider services include institutional connectivity, eduroam, eduVPN, email and hosting, digital identity services and cybersecurity support.

Availability depends on the service. Individuals and businesses can register and manage .lu domain names through the my.lu platform, while many network, hosting and security services are reserved for eligible institutions and their users.

The foundation was created in 2000 from the RESTENA project launched in 1989, then moved to Belval in 2015. Its ninth-floor offices are not advertised as a general walk-in IT counter. Contact Restena by phone or email first, and use the Administration entrance of Maison du Savoir for an arranged visit.
