Most people walk past the Maison de l’Innovation without knowing what happens inside, which is a shame, because it is one of the more useful doors in Belval.
This is home to Luxinnovation, Luxembourg’s national innovation agency. Founded in 1984, it exists to help companies innovate: startups looking for their first funding, established firms trying something new, researchers wondering whether an idea could become a business. The agency connects them with knowledge, funding, infrastructure and partners, and it does so in French, German, English and Luxembourgish. It is also Luxembourg’s contact point for the Enterprise Europe Network, the door to partners and opportunities across the continent.
The building itself is worth a look even if you never need the people inside. The Maison de l’Innovation sits directly between blast furnaces A and B, the old steel wrapping around the new offices, and it is one of the clearest pictures of what Belval is: a place where the national innovation agency works in the shadow of the furnaces that built the country’s last economy. Luxinnovation moved in back in July 2015, among the first arrivals of the new Belval, and shares the building with the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology.
If you are a student with a business idea, a researcher with something that might leave the lab, or a company thinking about setting up in Luxembourg, this is where those conversations start. It is an office rather than a walk-in venue, so get in touch first, but they are very much in the business of being contacted.
