Fischer-Z at Rockhal

In 1979, John Peel kept playing a Fischer-Z single called “Remember Russia”, and their album Word Salad became a cult record of the new wave years. John Watts still leads the band, with a voice fans recognise from the first line.

John Watts formed the band in England in 1976 and has kept the name working ever since, through new wave, through a long period where it was mostly a European touring proposition, and into the present. The songs are sharper and more political than the era they came from suggests.

The date was moved from earlier in the year, and Rockhal confirms that tickets already bought stay valid. Standing, in the Club, promoted by Greenhouse Talent.

Who are Fischer-Z?

Fischer-Z are a British band led by frontman John Watts, whose voice fans recognise from the first line. In the late 1970s and early 1980s they became a staple of the new wave and post-punk scene, with a sound that mixes pop, rock, punk and reggae.

Their 1979 album Word Salad became a cult record of the new wave years, and John Peel gave the single “Remember Russia” plenty of airplay. The breakthrough came in 1981 with their third album, Red Skies Over Paradise. More than 20 albums on, they are still writing new music.

The 50th Anniversary Tour

In 2026 Fischer-Z set out on a jubilee tour of Europe to mark fifty years. Their two Belgian shows in May 2026, at De Roma in Antwerp and the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels, sold out quickly, so a Rockhal date was added. First planned for September 2026, the Luxembourg show was rescheduled to this date, and tickets already bought remain valid.

Expect a best-of set drawn from more than 20 albums, plus new material. The band say they are “excited to return to Luxemburg in 2027”.
