At 12, Mentissa fell in love with singing while watching Glee. In 2021 she reached the final of The Voice in France, and her coach, Vianney, wrote her the song that launched her career, “Et bam”.
Mentissa plays the Rockhal Club on Friday 20 November. Doors at 20:00.
The Belgian singer came out of a television talent show and then did the harder thing, which was writing her way out of it. The records move between quiet and very much not, and she has the voice for both ends.
Standing, in the Club. The Witcher in Concert is in the Main Hall the same evening, which is about as far apart as two Rockhal nights get.
Who is Mentissa?
Mentissa Aziza is a Belgian singer born in 1999 in Ixelles, Brussels, and raised in Denderleeuw in Flanders. She fell in love with singing at 12 while watching the series Glee, and won the first season of The Voice Kids in Flanders in 2014.
France discovered her in 2021 on The Voice, where she reached the final in Vianney’s team. The two became friends, and he wrote “Et bam” for her: a song about her urge to sing, her arrival in Paris and finding herself on a TV set. Radio picked it up and her career took off. Rockhal describes her as a moving voice on ballads who turns into a lively pop performer when the tempo rises, and jokingly calls her a Belgian Chappell Roan.
Her records
- La Vingtaine (November 2022), her first album, released on Vianney’s label Tôt ou tard, with “Et bam”, “Attendez-moi” and “Balance”.
- Enfants difficiles (June 2026), a more pop second album that reached number 3 in Wallonia. She told L’Avenir it was “very personal, because everything was very instinctive”.
Songs to know before the night: “Et bam”, “Mamma mia”, “Désolée”, “Balance”, “La vie qu’on mène” and “Les enfants difficiles”.
Milestones
- November 2022: three nights opening for Vianney at the Olympia in Paris.
- Nominated for French-language Breakthrough of the Year at the NRJ Music Awards.
- 2023: “Mamma mia” reached number 6 in Wallonia.
- 2024: she switched chairs to become a coach on The Voice Belgique.
- 2025: third place at Eurosong, Belgium’s Eurovision selection, with “Désolée”, co-written with Vianney.
This show
“Désolée” marked her return to the dancefloor, and Rockhal promises it will get rooms dancing across France from autumn 2026, with this stop in Belval. The date is also part of Liveurope, a European initiative co-funded by the EU’s Creative Europe programme that supports emerging artists.
