It started with a university project in Perth in 2014, when Jack McEwan needed a song and called in a guitarist. The band that grew out of it picked its name, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, at random because it made them laugh, and cut its teeth at university garage raves.
Psychedelic Porn Crumpets play the Rockhal Club on Thursday 12 November, with Gros Coeur in support. Doors open at 20:00 and the show starts at 20:30.
The Australian five-piece took DIY psych-rock around the world, from High Visceral and Shyga! The Sunlight Mound to Fronzoli in 2023, picking up three WAMI Awards on the way. The Rockhal promises a sweaty, euphoric free-for-all. Gros Coeur bring tropical psychedelia from Liège and a new album, Vague Scélérate.
Standing, general admission, €33 including the €3 presale fee.
Who are Psychedelic Porn Crumpets?
Psychedelic Porn Crumpets come from Perth, Western Australia. It all began in 2014, when singer and songwriter Jack McEwan needed a song for a university project and called in guitarist Luke Parish. A drummer, a keyboard player and a bassist soon followed, and the five-piece cut their teeth at university garage raves. The name, the band say, was picked at random because it made them laugh.
Their psych rock is loud, colourful and restless, or in the band’s own words, “an energetic mess of colour and tone”. They see themselves first as a live act, and their shows are known for crowd-surfers and mosh pits. Since 2017 they have released their records on their own label, What Reality? Records.
