Fink at Rockhal

Fink started out as a DJ, and in 2000 he became, as Rockhal notes, the first singer-songwriter Ninja Tune ever signed. Since then Fin Greenall has written with Amy Winehouse and John Legend, and his song “Cold Feet” turned up in Better Call Saul.

Fink plays the Rockhal Club on Monday 2 November, with Angela Autumn. Doors at 19:30.

Fin Greenall started out making electronic records and then put the laptop down for a guitar, and the songs he has written since are built on restraint: slow, low, and largely about what he leaves out. Angela Autumn opens with country songwriting out of Nashville.

Who is Fink?

Fink is the stage name of British songwriter Fin Greenall, born in Cornwall, raised in Bristol and now based between Berlin and London. He started out as a DJ and electronic producer, and his debut album, Fresh Produce, came out in 2000 on Ninja Tune. The Rockhal notes he was the first singer-songwriter the label signed.

From Biscuits for Breakfast in 2006 he turned to songs built on fingerpicked guitar, mixing folk, alternative rock and light electronic touches. Behind the scenes he co-wrote “Half Time” with Amy Winehouse and “Green Light” with John Legend, and his song “Cold Feet” was used in Better Call Saul. The Rockhal sums up his concerts in four words: “no spectacle, no filler”.

Milestones

• A 2012 concert with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, later released as a live album.
