At 16, a boy from an Oxfordshire village watched a documentary about Kurt Cobain and started writing songs. In spring 2024, as Artemas, he had a number 1 on Spotify’s global daily chart with “I Like the Way You Kiss Me”.
Artemas brings the Getting Up To No Good Tour to the Rockhal Club on Saturday 14 November, with Henry Morris and Ella Boh. Doors at 20:00.
The British singer went from bedroom uploads to a global hit in the space of a few months, and has kept working in the same register since: short songs, sparse production, everything sitting on the vocal. He calls it lovercore, which is as good a word as any.
Three acts on one bill, so the doors time is worth taking seriously if you want the openers. Standing, in the Club. Calema are in the Box the same night.
Who is Artemas?
Artemas is Artemas Diamandis, a British-Cypriot singer, songwriter and producer born in 1999 and raised in a village in Oxfordshire. He took piano lessons from the age of six, and watching the Kurt Cobain documentary Montage of Heck set him writing songs at 16. He taught himself to play and produce, then moved to London and released his first single, “High 4 U”, in November 2020.
His sound is moody, late-night alt-pop with R&B in its bones. Rockhal compares him to sombr, Billie Eilish and Dominic Fike. Most people met him through “I Like the Way You Kiss Me” in spring 2024: the song went to number 1 on Spotify’s global daily chart and topped the charts in several European countries.
