Editors at Rockhal

Rockhal

Editors came out of Birmingham in 2002, led by Tom Smith’s deep voice and with Joy Division among their influences. “Munich” and “Blood” broke them, and they have kept moving since, further into electronic territory.

Editors play the Rockhal Main Hall on Monday 15 February 2027. Doors at 19:00.

Formed in Birmingham in 2003, they arrived with the guitar bands of that moment and then spent the following two decades moving steadily towards synthesisers without ever losing Tom Smith’s voice as the centre of it. The back catalogue is deep enough now that the set is a real choice.

Standing, Main Hall, promoted by den Atelier, so the ticket link goes through their listing on the Rockhal page.

Who are Editors?

Editors are a British rock band formed in Birmingham in 2002, led by the deep, distinctive voice of Tom Smith. Their sound mixes dark atmospheres with soaring melodies, rock guitars and prominent keyboards, and they name Joy Division and Interpol among their influences.

Their debut, The Back Room, broke them with “Munich” and “Blood”. Over the years they have kept moving, and recent records such as Violence and EBM pushed them further into electronic territory while keeping the emotional pull of the early songs. Rockhal calls them “one of the defining voices of modern British rock”.

Records and songs to know

  • The Back Room (2005): certified platinum in Britain.
  • An End Has a Start (2007): a chart-topper, home to “Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors”.
  • In This Light and on This Evening: another chart-topper, with “Papillon”.
  • Violence: a step further into electronic sounds.
  • EBM (2022): their most recent album so far.

Songs to know before the night: “Munich”, “Blood”, “Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors”, “Papillon” and the new single “Call It In”.

This tour

“Call It In”, released on Play It Again Sam, is the band’s first new music since EBM, and it arrives ahead of a new album whose title had not been announced when the tour was revealed. The European run starts in Rouen and Paris in late January 2027 and crosses a dozen countries before the British leg in March. Expect old favourites alongside the newer songs, all driven by Tom Smith’s voice.
