Bertrand Belin at Rockhal

Bertrand Belin spent years in a group, playing on other people’s records and writing songs for Bénabar and Olivia Ruiz, before his own first album came out in 2005, when he was 35. Since then his low baritone has carried spare French chanson into rock.

Belin writes in French with the guitar kept low and the words in front, in a voice so far down the register that it does most of the work on its own. He also writes novels, and it shows in how the songs are written.

Who is Bertrand Belin?

Bertrand Belin is a French singer, songwriter and guitarist, born in Brittany in 1970 and raised in Quiberon, one of five children. Before going solo he spent six years with the group Stompin’ Grawfish, played on other artists’ records and wrote songs for Bénabar and Olivia Ruiz. His first album came out in 2005, when he was 35.

His songs pair spare French chanson with rock arrangements, discreet electronic touches and a low baritone voice. He leads several creative lives at once: novelist with the Paris publisher P.O.L since Requin in 2015, film composer, and actor in films such as Tralala by the Larrieu brothers. He also wrote and sang the words of “Dimanche” on The Limiñanas’ album Shadow People.

The Watt tour

Belin is on the road with Watt, released on 3 October 2025. The album explores new ground, with existential themes and, according to the Liège venue OM, more singing than usual from an artist known for his minimalism. In 2026 the tour stopped at Rock en Seine and La Fiesta des Suds, with recent sets opening on “Que dalle tout” and “Pluie de data”. His February 2026 show at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels sold out.
