Escape the Internet brings together guitarists and a bassist who built huge audiences online, then carried their videos onto the stage. Their first European tour was in 2025, and the shows have since sold out from Europe to China and Australia.
Escape the Internet comes to the Rockhal Club on Wednesday 3 March 2027. Doors at 19:00.
Four players who each built an audience online and are now sharing one stage: Bernth from Austria, the English fingerstyle guitarist Mike Dawes, the bassist Charles Berthoud, and Ola Englund from Sweden. It is a tour premise that only makes sense in this decade, and it puts four very different techniques side by side.
Standing, in the Club. If you play, this is the one to stand near the front for and watch the hands.
What is Escape the Internet?
Escape the Internet brings together musicians who built huge audiences online and then carried their videos onto the stage. The project grew out of guitarist Bernth and bassist Charles Berthoud, joined by the Swedish guitarist Ola Englund, and its first European tour came in 2025. Since then the Escape the Internet shows have sold out venues in Europe, the United States, China, South Korea and Australia.
For this second edition, Escape the Internet II, the English acoustic guitarist Mike Dawes joins them, which makes four virtuosos on one stage. Ola Englund promised fans “a bigger lineup, new music, more collabs and an even crazier live show”.
The four players
- Bernth: Austrian guitarist, composer and session musician, at home anywhere from metal to film-style soundtracks. He has played solos on four platinum-certified albums, toured with the extreme metal band Belphegor, joined the pop rock group Seiler und Speer in 2015 and started his YouTube channel in 2018.
- Ola Englund: Swedish guitarist, songwriter and producer, known for his work with The Haunted and Feared, and nominated for a Grammy.
- Charles Berthoud: a bassist who blends rock, jazz and classical influences, followed by around three million people online and heard on five continents.
- Mike Dawes: an English fingerstyle guitarist who plays bass line, melody, percussion and harmony at the same time on a single acoustic guitar.
What to expect
The evening mixes metal, acoustic virtuosity and cinematic instrumentals, with the humour of their channels in between. The first tour combined songs and well-known videos with musical battles, challenges and audience interaction. Speaking to Mixdown, Bernth said playing his own music in the project felt “much, much more special” than playing other people’s songs, and both he and Berthoud plug their digital rigs straight into the sound system, with no amps on stage.
The group even has its own anthem: the song “Escape the Internet”, credited to Bernth, Charles Berthoud and Ola Englund, released in November 2024 on the album Elemental.
