Lamb of God came out of Richmond, Virginia and spent twenty-five years turning groove metal into something both punishing and precise. Five Grammy nominations and more than two million albums sold later, they still carry the punk ethos of the underground scene that raised them, which is a large part of why their live reputation has never slipped.
This is a Temple of Metal night in the Club, the smaller of the two Rockhal rooms, which is a notably tight space for a band that usually fills arenas. They come with a tenth album behind them, made again with longtime producer Josh Wilbur and drawing on every era of their career, from the blunt force of “Blunt Force Blues” to the more atmospheric “El Vacio”.
The Rockhal sits beside Belval-Université station, so the train drops you at the door and the last ones back run late. Tickets go on sale on Friday 18 September at 10:00, and Club shows for bands of this size have a habit of not lasting long.
Who are Lamb of God?
Lamb of God come from Richmond, Virginia. They started out in 1994 as Burn the Priest and changed name after a line-up change, with the new name first appearing on New American Gospel in 2000. Their sound is groove metal with punk roots, and they are seen as one of the key bands of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal.
Today’s line-up is Randy Blythe on vocals, Mark Morton and Willie Adler on guitars, John Campbell on bass and Art Cruz, who joined on drums in 2019. Over the years the band has collected several Grammy nominations for Best Metal Performance.

The new album
The band arrives with Into Oblivion, produced once again by their longtime collaborator Josh Wilbur. Randy Blythe describes the album as being about “the ongoing and rapid breakdown of the social contract”. “Blunt Force Blues” looks back to the Richmond underground scene of the early 1990s where the band grew up, while “El Vacio” shows a more atmospheric, melodic side.
