In Flames helped invent the “Gothenburg sound” in the 1990s: two interlocking guitars, melody and detailed arrangements. Thirty-odd years and fourteen albums on, they share the night with Trivium, the Grammy-nominated American metal band.
Trivium and In Flames share the Rockhal Main Hall on Tuesday 13 April 2027, with Paleface Swiss and Vola. Doors at 17:00.
In Flames helped invent the Gothenburg sound in the 1990s and Trivium grew up on it in Florida, so this is a scene and its inheritors on the same stage. Paleface Swiss bring deathcore from Switzerland and Vola bring Danish progressive metal, which gives the bill more range than a co-headline usually has.
Doors at 17:00 is the earliest on the entire Rockhal calendar, and it falls on a Tuesday. If you are coming from work or the campus, this is the one to leave early for. Standing, Main Hall.
Who are Trivium and In Flames?
In Flames are a Swedish band formed in 1990, widely seen as pioneers of melodic death metal and of the “Gothenburg sound”: two interlocking guitars, melodic vocals and detailed arrangements. Since their debut album Lunar Strain in 1994 they have released fourteen studio albums, sold millions of records and toured with Black Sabbath, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Judas Priest and Slayer.
Trivium are a Grammy-nominated American metal band led by singer and guitarist Matthew K. Heafy, with Corey Beaulieu on guitar, Paolo Gregoletto on bass and Alex Rüdinger, the newest member, on drums. Their breakthrough album Ascendancy was named Album of the Year by Kerrang!, went gold in the United Kingdom and sold around half a million copies worldwide. Since then they have collected six consecutive Top 25 debuts on the Billboard 200.
Old friends on the road
The two bands have crossed paths on tour for about twenty years. Heafy says they have toured together more than ten times and calls In Flames “one of our favorite bands on the planet”. He has also joined them on stage at their festival in Gothenburg to sing “Artifacts of the Black Rain”.

The 2027 tour
This spring run follows a North American tour together in autumn 2026 and covers Europe, the United Kingdom and Ireland, from Dublin on 29 March to Katowice on 7 May 2027. Trivium headline in the United Kingdom and Ireland, In Flames headline in Scandinavia, and everywhere else, Belval included, the two bands share top billing. One German promoter describes it as the largest joint run of their careers.
Trivium put it simply when they announced the dates: “A new era of Trivium is about to begin.”
