Hexed matinée at Kinepolis Belval

Saturday mornings at the cinema have a sound of their own: coats being folded onto knees, a straw finding the bottom of a cup, someone small asking whether it has started yet. On Saturday 28 November Kinepolis Belval fills five screens with it, for a matinée of Hexed, Disney’s new animated film, three days after it opens in Luxembourg.

Each session is in a different language, a quarter of an hour apart, so every family can hear it in the language they speak at home. Kinepolis says each ticket comes with a drink and an exclusive poster.

The film runs 1 hour 49 minutes, so the last sessions finish at about 12:35.

What is Hexed about?

Billie is an impulsive teenager who has never quite fitted in. When she discovers she has magical powers, and they get away from her, she is pulled out of her suburb into Hexe, a vast world of witches. To find her way back she has to team up with the most careful person she knows, her mother, Alice. Together they dig up family secrets that could change the world of witches for good.

It is an original story from Walt Disney Animation Studios, directed by Josie Trinidad and Jason Hand, with Hailee Steinfeld as Billie and Rashida Jones as her mother in the original English version. In French it is called Billie, à la croisée des mondes.

Who is it for?

Families first, and parents as much as children: underneath the spells it is a story about a mother and a daughter learning to trust each other. With Portuguese and Ukrainian sessions alongside French, German and English, it is also one of the rare mornings when nobody in a Belval family has to watch a film in their second language.

Good to know

• Five sessions start within 45 minutes of each other, so the foyer will be busy. Arrive ten minutes early.
