Luxembourg’s adult education campus, in the Terres Rouges tower, a few minutes’ walk from the university.
It opened in April 2021 and brought three national bodies under one roof: the Institut National des Langues, the Centre national de formation professionnelle continue, and the Service de la formation des adultes. Thirty-two classrooms, and a range of courses that is genuinely difficult to summarise.
Languages, from the country’s own four to Farsi, Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian. Digital skills. Sciences. Crafts. Making jewellery, printing in three dimensions, repairing things rather than replacing them. Astronomy. Yoga. Basic literacy for adults who want to read and write more confidently, and French for people who have just arrived and are starting from the alphabet.
There is also the second qualification route, which lets adults reach recognised diplomas they did not get the first time round.
Fees are modest, because the providers are funded by the education ministry rather than by the people attending.
It is the least glamorous building in Belval and one of the most useful.
