Café Saga closes after Friday lunch
Two hours on Friday, 12:00 to 14:00, and then Café Saga is gone until 1 September. The last menu of the summer, and where else to eat.
Café Saga goes on holiday this weekend, and the goodbye is a short one. Friday is the last service, 12:00 to 14:00 only, and then the doors stay shut until Tuesday 1 September.
The two hour window is not them being difficult. They are closing after lunch so the team can clean the place down properly before everyone scatters. Anyone who has ever worked in a kitchen knows what that afternoon looks like, and knows it is the reason the place smells right when it opens again in September.
So Friday lunch is the whole of it. Turn up at one, not at three.
The last menu of the summer
The board outside has been carrying it all week, and it is a good one to go out on. Turkey schnitzel with potatoes and salad, or salmon fillet with garlic dill butter, lemon rice and salad, both 18,50. A chickpea and black bean chili with vegan sour cream and rice, or a spinach and courgette quiche with peanut and mini burrata, both 17,50.
The full menu is on their page, and a table on Friday is worth ringing ahead for on 26 44 16 94. Two hours and one kitchen does not leave much room for turning up hopeful.
While they are away
Cocottes is in the same building. Paul is a few steps further along, and MyCaffé, and Terra are all an easy walk. Dalmat CoffeeHouse is on its own holidays and comes back on the 24th, so if your morning coffee and your lunch have both gone missing this month, that is why.
August in Belval
This is the third closure of the month. Delhaize has been shut since the 5th for its refit and reopens on the 27th. Dalmat went away on the 8th. Now Saga until September.
Belval does this every year. The students go home, the offices thin out, and everyone who makes a living from both takes their break in the same three weeks. It looks like the quartier emptying out. It is really just everybody taking their holiday at once, which is the sensible thing to do when your customers have already taken theirs.
By the time Saga unlocks the door on the 1st, everyone else is back behind theirs.
