The quiet day
Sunday in Belval
Luxembourg closes on a Sunday, but not as completely as everyone tells you.
Every opening time in this story is read from the place itself as you load this page, so it is right today rather than on the day somebody wrote it.

1 · Food
Three supermarkets, three different Sundays
Delhaize is the one to plan around: it opens earliest and shuts latest, and it is inside the Plaza, so the trip can carry the chemist and the post office with it on any other day of the week.
The other two are shorter and useful for different reasons. A-Market is the place for rice, noodles and sauces in quantities the others do not stock. ALDI is a morning, not an afternoon.

2 · Coffee
The one question everybody gets wrong
Belval has ten cafés and most of them treat Sunday as the day off. In an ordinary week two open, and one of those does not start until the afternoon.
Both are read live below. If one has shut for a fortnight, you will see it here rather than at the door.

3 · The thing to do
Climb the furnace
It closes on a Tuesday, which means Sunday is one of its best days and almost nobody plans for it. The route starts in the Möllerei and follows the path the ore once took, with a lift for part of the climb.
Check before you set out on a windy day: the top is open to the weather and that is the whole point of it.

4 · Outdoors
The park never closes
The one piece of Belval that has no opening hours at all. A playground, a Teqball table, and nine holes of disc golf that cost nothing if you bring your own discs.
Under the grass is the old Source Bel-Val, bottled and sent abroad long before the steelworks took the name.

5 · If it rains
The cinema opens at half past one
Sunday is a short day here compared with Friday and Saturday, so the last showing is earlier than you might assume. Worth checking the time before you build an evening around it.
The exhibition halls in the old works are the other indoor answer, and they keep proper Sunday hours.

6 · Getting there and back
The trains still run, just fewer of them
Second class public transport is free everywhere inside Luxembourg, on a Sunday like any other day. What changes is the frequency: the Sunday timetable is thinner, and the gap between trains is the thing that catches people out rather than the last one.
The departure board on the homepage is live, so it knows what today's timetable is doing rather than what a normal weekday would.

7 · What is shut
The Plaza keeps Sunday closed
The shopping centre treats Sunday as its closed day, and the shops inside follow it. A handful of Sundays a year are exceptions, announced in advance.
The row below is not the general rule, it is the coming Sunday. If one of those exceptions falls this week, it says so here rather than making you find out at the door.

This page is right on the day you read it
Nothing above was typed in from memory. Every time is read from the place as the page loads, which is why a story about opening hours can sit here for a year without going wrong.
Nobody pays to be listed here, and nothing was chosen for any reason other than the one printed next to it.
